The Meadowlark Smoky Mountain Heritage Center is heating up the summer with local events that showcase the deep roots of these incredible mountains. This past weekend Darren Nicholson, Grammy nominated musician, winner of multiple IBGMA Awards and founding member of Americana Band Balsam Range hosted a band camp and all-star concert at the MSMHC and motel. He was joined by stellar musicians Audie Blaylock, Reed Jone and Eric Ellis – all legends in the world of bluegrass music – in conducting musical seminars in the afternoon, culminating with an All Star Concert Saturday evening. It was an unforgettable experience filled with live, local bluegrass music, hands-on learning and inspiring performances.
Nicholson stated “Not only did we hopefully educate, entertain and inspire some folks at our camp and concert, but we had fun doing it! This was bluegrass music as it was meant to be played. You just can’t get better than these guys. Such a pleasure to play with!”
Heritage Center General Manager, Bob Plott, echoed Nicholson’s comments saying, ” I have heard and seen a lot of great musical performances in my lifetime – everything from classic rock, to R&B to Bill Monroe, and this was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. This is something we can build on and there is much more to come in the future. Stay tuned and get on our mailing list.”
Owner Joseph Franklyn McElroy added, “I totally agree with Bob, our objective is to provide quality entertainment and immersive educational experiences for our guests, while also using our place as home base for their Smoky Mountain adventures. Having quality, high energy artists like Darren and his friends as part of our roster allows us to do this and further sets us apart from our competition. No one is doing what we are doing and no one can do it better. Come and see us soon!”
