Maggie Valley Tubing: Tony’s Tube World

Normally open from mid-December to the 1st weekend in March, Tube World in Maggie Valley is located about four miles from the Cataloochee Ski Resort, just down from the post office and directly across from Ghost Town in the Sky Theme Park on Soco Road. At the time of this writing, tubing sessions cost $25 per person and a session lasts 1.5 hours, with new sessions being scheduled every two hours. Children must be at least 42 inches tall to go tubing.

Tube World offers eight lanes for snow tubing here in Maggie Valley. You must use all of Tube World’s equipment – they do not allow any other equipment or tubes on the lanes. Also, two-person tubing is not allowed. It’s located at 4721 Soco Road (Highway 19).

Maggie Valley Tubing: How it Works

You can make reservations online for Tube World and this is highly recommended for this popular attraction, as available slots sell out quickly during peak season. Dress warmly. If you did not bring snow apparel with you to Maggie Valley, you can always buy it in town or at the ski resort. After you pay your admission, you’ll be given a lift sticker or ticket. You attach this to your clothes with a metal clip (make sure you ask for the clip before you go stand in line). A conveyor belt takes you to the top of the hill where tubing starts simultaneously for all eight lanes. Tube World uses the same snow-making technology that Cataloochee Ski Resort uses, so there will always be snow during their open season.

Sometimes the lanes are faster or slower, depending upon factors like if there have been a lot of people riding down the lanes ahead of you already. This makes the snow slicker and your tubing will be faster. At the bottom, you’ll encounter an inflatable wall that will stop you if you haven’t come to a stop already. If you take a look at Trip Advisor®, you’ll see there are several notations from former guests who say they slammed into the wall pretty hard, causing injuries. With hundreds of Maggie Valley tubing guests daily, the injury rate at Tube World is relatively low, but any perceived risk is something your group will have to determine on your own. Anyone with a disability or back problems may want to take this into consideration before tubing.

During peak season, you may find that lines are long to get to the top of the hill. The best times to go are when they first open during the day, near closing time and week days when there aren’t quite as many tourists.

By and large, the comments from people who have gone snow tubing at Tube World in Maggie Valley are similar to “It’s awesome!” “Fun!” “Great fun for the whole family” … and so on. But you’ll never know until you try it for yourself.
